It’s really worth a visit and the Fens area is a much neglected place for tourists to visit. Downham Market is a lovely market town and a good place to find accommodation – it has an entry n Wikipedia if you’re interested.
I’ve just looked it up on the map – I’d actually no idea where it was. I’ll be in Cambridge in a few weeks but won’t have time to visit Ely – but must keep it in mind for another time…
Yes, do. It’s a lovely part of the world and the Cathedral has a lot going for it. Besides, Thomas Cromwell’s house is nearby and is almost as often visited.
Funnily enough you posted this on the very same day that the BBC have published an article about the day the Ely bell tower collapsed. Apparently today is the anniversary. Coincidence, or did you know?
Me too. It’s hard not to. I did, however, spend time looking for The Green Man among the gargoyles on the Cathedral. I found one but I’m told there are 3 there.
It would be a happier Sunday if the wind would die down but it’s blowing a gale here, impossible to go out I’d be blown off my feet! Apart from that all’s well so I’ll just settle in with the papers!
That cathedral is still on my bucket list.

Unfortunately, it is not only that area that will have to wait. 😦

Been there only once, fantastic place but I can’t remember much of it. Probably focused more on Oliver Cromwells house.

Wining and dining up in the hills with a group of friends. No walking so I can wear a frock! 🤣💟
