That photograph was taken about 15 years ago I think when the custom was still rife in Thailand but many of the Red Karen hill tribe have discontinued it now. However, it is still the practice in some really remote areas of the mountains and it is prevalent in Myanmar (the tribes used to migrate back and forth across the border) where they have not had much contact with the rest of the world.

Fantastic pictures Mari, especially of the girl with the neck rings. I thought that custom was no longer followed but I suppose I’m wrong . The photos were perfect for your chosen words.
